News 1 Feb 2011 Remote monitoring solution for windmills implemented A leading windmill owner in South India has invested in a remote monitoring solution for 70 windmills. Frontal has built and implemented this system which collects windmill data including running status, generation, wind speed, rotor rpm, generator rpm and fault signals and transmits over GSM/GPRS network to a central server for archiving, reporting and alerting. The data is viewed over the web and monthly reports are emailed to the users. In case of stoppage of windmills, SMS alert is sent to the site operator resulting in fast problem resolution. This solution has greatly simplified the data collection, monitoring and problem solving activities for remotely located windmills. The system has resulted in an 18% increase in uptime during the first month after implementation. The future plan is to implement for another 400 windmills and build additional functionality to integrate data to SAP, automatically schedule maintenance based on equipment efficiency and calculate machine-wise cost, return on investment. A key feature of the solution is that it is generic in nature and can be extended to any type of remotely located asset. |
